Paper Craft…. Quilling

Check this out

This paper craft is called Quilling. You need quilling paper- 1/8″, a quilling needle tool & slotted tool, circle template board, straight pins, tweezers, scissors and craft glue. The concept is that you use a small tool and curl and glue paper to create cool shapes. Very time consuming but very cool…. Sort of a lost art!

Elysium Touch Massage

My hips have been killing me lately so I finally gave into, my friend Mariah Neesons, suggestion of a massage. GLAD I DID!! I have had many massage therapist friends over the years and still never listen to the advice and get massaged regularly. First I must say if you hope to just leave feeling “relaxed” tell Mariah before you start. When she askes “is anything troubling you?” She means, “I am really going to work that free for you, breath deap!”

My hips feel great, and I am reminded to take care of myself. My day was changed…. I even forgot about an appointment. OH NO… :( Thankfully they did not appear to mind, and they shopped while I scurried downtown. Heh heh….

Massage = Good

Busy Crazy Life = Bad

Of course I am kidding, I really do wish how ever that I would be smart and visit Mariah much more often. Take care of yourself, life is short!

Oh yeah and make sure to Watch “Slumdog Millionaire” by Danny Boyle

Pictures of the snow storm

Last month we broke the 1950s snow record. The Associated Press said more than 59 inches fell! What a mess. Spokane city used its entire snow removal budget by March of 2008. I suppose Bellingham WA had it worst off seeing they actually sold all of the cities snowplows. They told motorists to “stay home and God Bless.”

I guess this is a good time to admit that YES we are firm supporters of taking care of our planet and reforming us as a nation to not be such sloth, wasteful people….. we don’t however believe the propaganda of the “man made global warming, we are going to destroy the earth” talk.  Jim Hansen, Nasa scientist and leading climate expert, so boldly proclaimed this month that Obama has 4 years to save the earth. Here me on this one, this is the same man who in 1971 boldly claimed the earth was going into another ice age due to mans actions and we MUST act now to stop it.

Okay why the change in theory with out a single explanation as to his conclusions. Furthermore when a politician (Al Gore in this case) tells you ALL scientist agree you should question him, especially when he wins a noble peace prize, and has never once debated the other side of the story publicly. Okay if you would really like to hear the other side of the story, check out The Great Global Warming Swindle or you can watch this video

If you haven’t considered the other side of the story now is the time. So here are some pictures of our record snow!!!

Snow

Castle

One day it warmed up and the snow melted a bit so I dug a hole and we stuck icicles on top to build a castle!

Snow covered

That night it snowed 18″ and covered our castle!!!  One cool thing about the snow is that you can see birds better!

Happy New Years!!

For those of you who don’t know, our front yard is public land that is filled with wildlife. Daily bird watchers walk by our front yard on their way to hopefully get a glimpse of one of the amazing creatures.  Today two HUGE hawks flew by our window and landed on a nearby tree. This was a perfect home school moment. We got out our binoculars and looked at the birds, then we opened the computer and looked up hawks. This is where I found Michael Rosenbaums Flicker Site

Michael Rosenbaums Eagle

All I can say is WOW!!! This man travels around the world capturing amazing photos of birds. We were lost in his photos.  If you are interested in learning more about our front yard visit Palisades Website

As always thanks for reading and Happy New Year!

Mixed Topics

As of recent I have discovered that people actually read my blog :) I have to admit that makes me excited and nervous. Excited that I have friends who check on me, and nervous because English in general in my weakest subject. I write how I talk, in fragmented sentences. I spell how any slightly dyslexic person who has spent no time trying to improve her spelling would spell…. Horribly

Well I guess you don’t care about my faults. It drives Nathan crazy. (He is an English lit/ Spanish lit major after all) For example a local author who we love blogged about us recently. I’ve been 26 steps behind since Abraham has arrived (where is my Mary Poppins?) and did not know she wrote about us. A paper supplier in San Francisco found us because of something written about us. I went googling trying to find the latest news on aNeMonE that was unknown to us. Megan wrote and article for the Spokesman and mentioned us as well as a lovely blog mention.  (Seriously check out her blog she has THE coolest crafters blog out there. She inspires me!)

She took a gorgeous picture of the tree we created. Okay I’m getting to my point here…. I left her a blog comment and called her “Cleaver” instead of “Clever” If Nathan read our blog he would be irritated. What was I thinking? 1st, it was way too late at night to be posting public comments and 2nd, her site is slightly 50ish but I wasn’t thinking June Cleaver :) 3rd, I lost sleep over the mistake. Silly isn’t it?

On to the Blog…. What I wanted to mention besides Megan Cooley and her cool blog, was that we watched 2 movies that I wanted to share…

1. “Dan in Real Life”    I have to say we LOVED this movie. It was a comedy about “real life” it was clever (not cleaver,) it made us both laugh and cry. Maybe I loved it so much because I have a large family that has moments similar to the ones built in the movie. Maybe because the music was “Handmade” (watch the extras at the end!) Maybe because the main character held a moral standard. Kudos to Peter Hedges the director, we will be following him, like we follow Wes Anderson. Juliette Binoche we have always loved and Steve Carell is becoming one of our favorite actors

2. The Violin (El Violin)    This movie was incredibly. Nathan didn’t stop talking about it for days. Francisco Vargas directs this compelling story of three traveling musicians, a father, son, and grandson. It touches on the horror of war, the basic good of humanity, and the common language of music. This movie may be a hard one to find, we use and love Netflicks.

Abraham and the boys are doing well! Our “little aNeMonE store” has been quickly gaining customers we call “collectors.” Pick up a copy of this months, Spokane Metro Magazine at our little store, they wrote a lovely little blurp on us this issue. I’ve attached the picture they used the the Magazine. It’s Jonah with one of our paper flowers  Spokane Metro

I’ll try to write again this month. Thanks for all your love and support!
